Materials Used in Elementary 6-9
In primary, students used a thousand cube, a hundreds square, and a ten bar to manipulate the hierarchy of numbers. In first grade, they begin with the million cube (as big as a television) in order to compare sizes. Children manipulate stamp games, bead frames, multiplication checkerboards which are highly visual in their operation and deepens the child's understanding.
Especially interesting at this age is the function of words that have objects attached; for example, the farm game (doll house), that allows the child to use nouns, verbs, pronouns, conjunctions, adjectives, adverbs and prepositions in an imaginative and logical way. We have incorporated unique learning materials that are not Montessori, but heighten the sequence for the child's visual and manipulative strategies of learning.
