Elementary Program (9-12 Years old)

Fourth and Fifth Grade Education

Montessori Programs — Teacher Helping Students In A Classroom in Glenshaw, PA
Our Upper Elementary takes advantage of what the multi-age classroom of 3-6 and 6-9 has developed. In order to maximize the potential of what they have learned, we have designed a curriculum of advanced learning (a more gifted direction). Some grades are taught subjects specifically for that grade level, for example fourth grade has its own math and fifth grade has its own. This allows for a more concentrated curriculum, more peer discussion and interaction with an adult. Through discussion more tactical operations are founded (how many ways to solve a problem?).  At times the grades are grouped together for their language development, however both grades are working on a research level using various resources from textbooks, periodicals and technology.
Part of the network of learning includes cross-curricular activities where Social Studies, Language and Technology are coordinated for a specific curriculum outcome. Children in fourth and fifth grade have two periods of Science. One is General Science and the second is Physics. They also have two periods of Language to heighten their writing ability.
